Personal Statement

I have served on various committees within the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery for eight years, and in that time, I have seen the relentless effort and work to provide a standard of surgical certification that is both effective and fair to its candidates. Witnessing these changes has continued to convince me of the loyalty and care ABFAS and its members have for the safety and care of the public and the profession.

I have been grateful for the mentorship of other ABFAS surgeons and physicians in growing and adapting my own surgical skills to the needs of my patients. I have continued to be a vocal advocate for the certification process to my residents and other candidates that I come into contact with, and I will continue that as a potential member of the ABFAS Board of Directors. Understanding their needs and struggles and being able to bring that back to the board and its members has helped show me the care the staff and volunteers have, which is why it is the “gold standard” for surgical certification.

I believe strongly in our mission statement: “to safeguard public health and well-being by certifying and continually assessing the knowledge, skills, and abilities of podiatric surgeons to ensure excellence in surgical care.” Thank you very much for your consideration, and I am humbled to be included with the others in these nominations.
