COVID-19 Restrictions Limit Testing Seats for Fall Exams

Pearson VUE testing centers are at half capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions.  More testing seats are expected to open as local restrictions are lifted. Meanwhile, do not use the Consecutive Appointment feature to schedule multiple exams back-to-back. Instead, schedule each exam independently.  You may contact Pearson VUE for assistance at 800-511-6951 Mon–Fri, 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. CT. If you need further help please email us at scheduling@abfas.org. We’ll do everything we can to get you scheduled.

First and Second Year Residents:
We strongly encourage you to take your didactic ITEs online to make more testing center space available for the CBPS exams. Scheduling for this exam is expected to open mid-July.

Additional Dates for Part I and Final-year In-training Didactic Examination

Due to scheduling difficulties caused by COVID-19 restrictions at Pearson VUE test centers, ABFAS has added two additional dates, October 9 and October 22, 2020, for Part I Didactic Exams and Final-year In-training Didactic Exams.  Either the Foot or RRA Didactic exam or both can be scheduled on these dates.  The additional dates are for Part I and Final-year In-training Didactic exams only.  There are no additional dates for CBPS exams.

ABFAS will email detailed instructions on how to schedule didactic exams on the additional dates to everyone registered for a Part I Didactic Exam or the Final-year In-training Exam.

Part II CBPS Examination

ABFAS has rescheduled the May 13, 2020, Part II CBPS examination due to the COVID-19 health emergency. The new date is Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

Candidates will remain registered for the examination and ABFAS has rescheduled each candidate's appointment(s) to the September 22 examination date. Candidates can review their new appointments for the September 22 examination by logging into their ABFAS personal profile and clicking the "Step 2: Schedule/View Examination with Pearson VUE" button. You will see your exam in the Pearson VUE dashboard under Upcoming Appointments for Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

Sign-in with your ABFAS user name and password using the "Login" button at the top of the webpage. If you need password assistance, you will find it on the "Login" page.

Please note, at this time, only the Pearson VUE site will show the correct exam scheduling information. Please do not refer to the scheduling information on your ABFAS profile page information as it is incorrect.

Part II Case Review

In the context of this pandemic, ABFAS has made the difficult decision to postpone this year’s Case Review examination. It will now take place on October 2-4 and 9-11, 2020. Candidates should expect their results in early November, 2020.

ABFAS has also extended the deadline for Case Review candidate submission of complete electronic case documentation from March 20 to April 30, 2020. You must now submit your complete electronic case documentation by 11:59 pm Pacific Time on April 30, 2020.

How will postponed Case Review impact you?  If your board qualification expires on August 31, 2020, and you meet the Case Review Surgeon of Record criteria, we will automatically extend your status until December 31, 2020.  You will not need to petition the board for an extension.

ABFAS is prepared to work with you and can provide documentation for your employer about the delay in the Case Review process and certification timeline. If you have any questions or are in need of official documentation that our certification process has been delayed, please contact us at info@abfas.org.
